Internationalisierung als Ursache der Nationalisierung im amerikanischen Gelehrtentum. Die Paradoxien der Akademikermobilität im 19. Jahrhundert
[Internationaliztion as Cause of Nationalization in American Scholardom. The Paradoxes of Academician Mobility in the Nineteenth Century]
(Adam R. Nelson)
Study or research years abroad, mainly in the United States, have become the «conditio sine qua non» of academic careers in recent years. In this regard, education science has been much more hesitant, which has led to the reproach that it develops its arguments still within the mental structures of the nineteenth century – and that this nationalization should be countered by means of stays abroad. However, the demand for study abroad is not an invention of the late twentieth century. As Adam Nelson's contribution in this issue shows, journeys abroad were expected and also carried out already in the nineteenth century. The fact that these travels did not, and do not, inevitably lead to internationalization of the discussion is shown by the following contribution by Adam Nelson.
